The Oregon Trail Visitors Center is located in Oregon City and provides visitors with an overview of the history of the Oregon Trail and the pioneers who traversed it. Opened in 1976, the center celebrates the journey of the pioneers to the Pacific Northwest and provides information about the legendary trail. Here you can explore interactive exhibits, watch a documentary video about the Oregon Trail, and learn about the importance of the Oregon Trail and the pioneers.
What to Expect at the Oregon Trail Visitors Center
The Oregon Trail Visitors Center offers a series of interactive exhibits that present visitors with an understanding of the daily life of Oregon Trail pioneers. Exhibits include a Pioneer Camp, where visitors can experience what it was like to be a pioneer living in the West, with hands-on activities and artifacts from the era. In addition, the Oregon Trail Visitors Center features a multimedia theater showing a documentary about the journey of the Oregon Trail pioneers. This video is presented in a presentation series, which shows reenactments of the pioneer's life, narrations from their diaries, and includes interviews with some of the descendants of the Oregon Trail pioneers. Finally, the Oregon Trail Visitors Center hosts public lectures and programs intended to educate visitors about the Oregon Trail and its importance in the history of the Pacific Northwest region. These programs include historical talks, activities, and hands-on experiences.
Visit the Oregon Trail Visitors Center
The Oregon Trail Visitors Center is open seven days a week from 9 AM to 5 PM, with the exception of major holidays. The center also has a gift shop that sells books, toys, and souvenirs related to the history of the Oregon Trail. There is no admission fee for the center, although donations are appreciated.
